Wildlife You Might Spot
Hedgehogs & Squirrels
Wander the grounds at dawn or dusk and you may spot a hedgehog shuffling through the undergrowth or a squirrel leaping between tree branches overhead.
Blue Jays & the Call of the Cuckoo
Birdlife flourishes here. The vibrant flash of a blue jay or the distinct call of a cuckoo adds a touch of magic to the woodland air. Keep an ear out—you’ll likely hear a full chorus of local songbirds on any given morning.
Bats at Dusk
As evening falls, several species of bats emerge, weaving and swooping silently through the air as they hunt for insects. Watch the sky—it's a mesmerising sight.
Grass Snakes, Butterflies & Dragonflies
If you're lucky, you might see a grass snake basking near the edge of the stream. Butterflies flutter across the meadows, while dragonflies—some of the stunning double-winged variety—dance over the water and grasses in the warmer months.
A Natural Sanctuary
Whether you’re relaxing with a book or exploring the surrounding paths, nature at Shilla Mill is always close by. It’s a peaceful, unspoiled corner of Cornwall where wildlife is not only welcome—it thrives.
