preparation. So put your feet up, relax, and let us do the heavy lifting.

Pack in advance
Life can be busy, and often we are left with not much time for ourselves. It may seem convenient to
keep putting off packing your bags for holiday and think ‘I’ll do it tomorrow’ but tomorrow never
comes. To get rid of some of the stress that surrounds camping, write a list at least 2 weeks before
you go camping and add to it every day. You’d be surprised how much you forget if you try and pack blindly! Writing a list weeks in advance gives you more time to prepare, shop if you need to, and it’s more likely that you’ll remember everything you want to take with you.
At least a week before you go camping, pack your bags! This will take away so much stress and
anxiety right before your holiday. Packing really doesn’t take that much time, it seems like a long
task but when you follow what’s on your list, then you’ll be done in no time!
Prepare snacks for the journey
We all love a stop at a service station now and again, but did you know that the food you eat can
actually affect your mood? Packing a fruit bag, some crackers, or some pre-made sandwiches can
help to make the journey more enjoyable. Children get fussy when they’re hungry and adults get
hangry. Having something to snack on to restore your energy (that isn’t just sweets and fast foods)
will set you up to have a better day and less stress!
This is easier said than done, and it is extremely convenient to stop off along the way for a snack,
and it’s all part of the holiday experience for a lot of families! But, having enough snacks in the car to last until you get to the campsite will save you a lot of trouble. Just think, you’ve got to spend time
putting the tent up, unpacking, looking round the campsite. You don’t want to be doing all of that on an empty stomach so have snacks to make it easier!
Look into your camping location beforehand
One of the reasons that people love Shilla Mill and keep coming back is because of what we have around us. We have the beach just a couple of minutes’ walks away, and plenty of adventures to go on. We are located in a gorgeous area that is breath taking and makes for the best holiday! But, not knowing what to expect from your campsite can create a lot of on holiday stress. If you notice they have a pool, but you haven’t packed swimming costumes then you’ll be stressed trying to find some that fit your family. Or, if you didn’t realize that there was a beach and you didn’t bring buckets and spades, then going for a hunt to buy some is not really what you want to be doing on holiday. Look on the campsite’s website to see what you can get up to whilst you’re away as this will relieve a lot of anxiety on the trip.
Plan your food
When you’re on holiday you don’t want to be thinking about what you’re having for your next meal, you want to enjoy your time! Plan before you go is one of the best pieces of advice that we provide.
How many meals are you eating out for? Do they have restaurants that are easy to get to? Check
takeaways and see if they can deliver to your campsite, and of course plan where you are going to buy all of your fresh food from, and how you are going to store it all.
Planning food is something that a lot of people throw aside and just think they’ll do it when they’re
away, this creates hours of discussing what places are available and what you all want to eat.
Having a plan for food (and you don’t have to stick with it, it’ll just give you some insight to what’s
available) will eliminate those hangry decisions and create for a more stress-free holiday trip that
you can enjoy with your family.
Remember that you need to enjoy it too
We’re all guilty of putting others first now and then, but it is your holiday too! It’s great to see your
kids having fun, and your partner relaxing in the sunshine, but are you having fun? Set aside some
time for yourself every day, whether that is reading a book, taking a walk, or having a splash in the sea. Remember that you need to enjoy the holiday too and it isn’t just your family that gets all the joy.
We here at Shilla Mill hope that you have a stress-free holiday and enjoy your camping trip as best
as you can!
