Tips for a successful family camping trip

Going on holiday can be such a luxury. A chance to get away from the routine of everyday and just relax by the pool with a nice book. Holiday’s change when you have a family. It’s more about affordable trips, places to keep the kids entertained and a whole lot of stress for the parents!

We’re here to tell you that going on holiday doesn’t have to be stressful! Booking a family holiday should be about connecting more and growing as a unit. Learning new skills together and cherishing the time you have with the family.

Instead of splashing out on a holiday that you think will be relaxing but action packed so the kids don’t get bored. Plan to go on a camping trip instead! You and your family can have a successful trip without any stress! Parents have opted for a family camping trip over a holiday abroad for years because of all of the benefits it has!

We have created the perfect guide full of tips so that you and your family can have an amazing camping trip!

Introduce Camping Slowly to Children

If you have young children then introducing camping to them before you go is a great idea. By setting up a tent in your back garden, creating an indoor fort, and telling them how exciting it is can be a huge help!

It’s a new situation for your children, they may have never even heard of camping before and to a child it can seem pretty scary! The idea of sleeping outside in a tent doesn’t appeal to young kids straight away (unless they love the outdoors) so slowly bringing them into it will make it easier on the holiday.

Wherever you have set up your trial run tent you want to include some items that your kids love. Their favourite blanket, toys, pillows. Anything that can provide some extra comfort so that they enjoy the adventure more! Showing them that their favourite items can come with them on holiday will make the transition so much smoother.

Remember that this is only a practice run! So don’t worry if you end up with a child who is a bit grumpy through the night and wants their own bed. Or if you’re up all night struggling to sleep with the kids in a tent. Practice makes perfect! Just keep doing it and reinforcing how much fun it is to your kids!

Camp in Luxury

Luxury camping, glamping, whatever you want to call it, is a great way for you to have minimal stress when you are on holiday! Instead of sleeping on the floor, being strict with electronics etc. Why not give luxury camping a go?

Camping is no longer about being one with nature. You aren’t expected to go out and catch your own dinner or sit around a fire singing campfire songs (although that does sound pretty fun). You can make the experience be whatever you want it to be!

Some people like to bring beds camping, throw out the sleeping bag and bring a duvet to get cozy in. Bringing a TV is another great option to add some luxury into your tent! You don’t have to just have the basics, anything that will help the holiday you should bring!

Here at Shilla Mill we are proud to call our campsite a ‘luxury’ place to come on holiday. We have so many amazing activities to do all around so you and your family will never get bored! We supply you with so much stuff that your transition into camping will be so smooth and easy!

Camping in luxury doesn’t have to be expensive either, a lot of people think luxury comes with a price! But just bringing a few extra bits from home like your kettle, microwave, even your games console can transform your holiday completely! Speak to your family and see what items they want to bring camping so that you don’t have any meltdowns when you unpack the car realizing you didn’t pack your child’s favourite game!

Practice Mindfulness

Before you think that mindfulness isn’t for you just give this tip a go! Mindfulness isn’t just about meditating and being one with your feelings. There are so many different ways you can explore mindfulness within camping, and it doesn’t have to be something embarrassing or uncomfortable.

A lot of people find camping to be peaceful because it gives them a chance to listen to the nature around them. Breathe in the natural air, and enjoy activities that you can’t do back at home. One of the luxuries of going abroad is being relaxed by the pool or bathing on the beach. These things are a form of mindfulness.

The beautiful Polzeath is just a short walk from your mindfulness get away! There are so many different water activities that you can enjoy with the family! Relaxing on the gorgeous sand might be exactly what you need in order to achieve a successful camping trip! Or maybe water sports are more your thing? Polzeath is the ultimate home of water sports so there is something for all the family to enjoy! And you can always head back to your tent and listen to the lovely sound of birds if the fresh beach air is too much for you.
